Lance Skiiiwalker Surprises Fans With A Soulful Continuation To His Discography

Lance Skiiiwalker

Lance Skiiiwalker has spent the majority of his career buried in hip-hop’s underground, with an incredibly unique R&B-infused style that has garnered him a cult following. The Illinois-born singer-songwriter was on a hiatus for five years before dropping an EP in 2021, and in 2023 fans finally got a jampacked full-length album.

Lance Skiiiwalker’s real name is actually Lance Howard, but he adopted the “Skiiiwalker” moniker to express his individuality and creativity. He is known for his soulful, jazz-infused music that often features psychedelic, live instrumentation, which sets his stylistic decisions apart from many mainstream artists. His newest release Audiodidactic feels like a tieback to themes from his previous work, with more of a free-flowing organization and relaxed transitions between tracks. The entire project explorers elements from genres including Reggae, experimental modern R&B and 2010s hip hop. Lance Skiiiwalker's vocals are extremely laid back and smoky, and a few tracks contain nearly no vocals aside from occasional bits and pieces of singing.

Skiiiwalker’s debut album, “Introverted Intuition”, was released in 2016 under notorious label Top Dawg Entertainment, the production company home to Kendrick Lamar, SZA, and Schoolboy Q. The album was met with critical acclaim and showcased Lance’s ability to create a cohesive and atmospheric project that was both musically and thematically rich and diverse. The album featured guest appearances from other TDE artists, including Ab-Soul and Isaiah Rashad, and includes standout tracks like “Speed”, “Toaster”, and “All Stops”. Lance Skiiiwalker’s vocals are smooth and hypnotic, and his lyrics are introspective and thoughtful.

In the years since the release of his first album, Lance Skiiiwalker has continued to strengthen his portfolio in the music industry by focusing on production and features for other major-artists’ projects. He has collaborated with other artists, SZA being an honorable mention, and has released several standalone singles, including “Where To With You” and “In The World”.

Skiiiwalker’s music is not only impressive for its sonic risk-taking, but also for the way it addresses important social and political issues. He has spoken about his experiences as a Black man in America and the ways in which his music is a form of protest and resistance. The artist is also known for his engaging live performances, which feature his band and showcase his skills as a vocalist. He has performed at festivals including Coachella and Rolling Loud and has opened for major artists like Schoolboy Q and Travis Scott.

In conclusion, Lance Skiiiwalker is an artist to watch in the coming years. His unique blend of R&B, jazz, and hip-hop, combined with his thoughtful lyrics and engaging live performances, make him a unique face in the music industry.

Underground rapper 'Rich Amiri' has been putting in work this year. His last 2023 project 'Evolution' was aptly titled, as it reflected the rapper's hunger for growth and fame. Singles like 'Can't Die' and 'Poppin' (ft. Lil Tecca) were bouncy, aggressive and showcased Rich Amiri's unique flows and vocals over fresh Pluggnb beats.  'Ghetto Fabulous' takes everything good from his previous album and elevates ideas like never before. Songs such as 'One Call' and 'Codeine Crazy' contain addictive hooks and unique vocal melodies that sit over simple, aggressive beats. One Call, in particular, might just be the single to put Rich Amiri's name on the map, especially as it's begun to see virality on TikTok.  If you've enjoyed projects from similar artists like Ken Carson, Destroy Lonely, and Dom Corleo, be sure to give Rich Amiri's latest album a listen here:

It's nice to see a few of the songs that have been teased over the past couple years are finally getting album placements, including the highly-anticipated single 500 Hours. Overall, Bawskee 5 is a great continuation of the artist's sound. Each song is reckless an
